It’s summer, and that means there are plenty of chances to be on or near the water — and Lorain’s Black River serves as the backdrop to a host of them. Here are a few of the best ways to enjoy the Black River this summer.

46th Lorain International
Festival, June 22
This event is Black River Landing’s biggest draw with about 100,000 visitors each year. It features vendors, food, concerts and kids’ activities inspired by Lorain’s multicultural heritage.

Second Annual Black River
Kayak-a-Thon, June 23
Race 11.8 miles by kayak. The course starts at French Creek and winds through Black River habitat restoration zones,
ending at the Black River Landing.

Port Fest, July 4
This popular Independence Day celebration at Black River Landing draws approximately 50,000 people each year. Enjoy river cruises, live music and food, all capped by a fireworks display.

Jet Express Cruises
The ferry service has 19 excursions planned out of the Black River Landing this summer and fall, including a cruise to Cleveland’s Horseshoe Casino, a sunset wine tasting cruise and an Oktoberfest cruise.
