Thorn Mountain Bike Trail, or the Thorn, as it’s called by mountain biking enthusiasts, has a cult following among local riders who live near Findley State Park. The recently lengthened trail — now spanning more than 11 miles long — was one of the first of its kind when it was built in 2004, says Rocky Carpenter, park manager.
You don’t have to worry about encountering any cliff faces on the relatively flat but heavily wooded course. “There’s some terrain to it, up and down some ravines,” says Carpenter, adding that 2 miles were added to the winding trail last year that riders take on clockwise around the entire perimeter of the park.
Insider tip » The trail has its own Facebook page where riders can find updates about the condition of the course and efforts to keep it clear and in good condition.
Don’t miss » Giving back. There’s a newly installed donation tube near the entrance. All proceeds go toward maintenance and upkeep of the trail.
