Top-notch healthcare is imperative to the well-being of any city, county or region. And so is a stable of good jobs that can be filled with a strong local workforce. Mercy and EMH Healthcare provide both of those things. For this issue of puLse Lorain County’s Magazine we sat down with Don Sheldon, president and CEO of EMH Healthcare, and Ed Oley, president and CEO of Mercy. Both men are leading organizations that, in turn, are leading the community. They set the standard for excellence and hard work, and we talked to them about job growth and the changing world of healthcare.

We also talked to three men who have shown us the auto industry is, indeed, still alive in Lorain County. Jim Bass, Jack Matia and Bob Fisher have stood at the head of dealerships that have weathered the economic storm. They tell us what it takes to be successful.

This issue also announces the finalists for the second-annual Best of Lorain County. We asked you to nominate your favorite things — from dining to shopping to services and people. And you did in full force. We’ve tallied the results, and the nominees come from every corner of the county. Join us Thursday, June 23, at the Lorain County Community College’s Spitzer Center when we will celebrate the places on this list. You will be able to vote for the best of the best — so don’t miss it.
